Marc Chavez is a seasoned criminal defense trial attorney and former prosecutor who brings nearly two decades of courtroom experience to the representation of individuals facing serious criminal allegations throughout Central Texas. As founder of the Marc Chavez Law Firm, he is recognized for his trial-focused approach and his ability to guide clients through complex and high-stakes criminal proceedings with strategic insight developed from both sides of the courtroom.

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Chavez served for 12 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Lubbock County and Travis County, where he prosecuted cases ranging from misdemeanor offenses to capital murder. During his tenure as a prosecutor, he handled numerous jury trials and high-profile matters, including participation in the prosecution of a capital murder case arising from the SXSW incident in Austin. This extensive prosecutorial background provides him with a deep understanding of how criminal cases are investigated, charged, and tried—experience he now leverages to anticipate prosecutorial strategy and identify weaknesses in the government’s case when defending clients.

Since founding his firm in 2018, Mr. Chavez has focused his practice on criminal defense, representing clients accused of offenses including DUI and DWI, violent crimes, domestic violence allegations, and other serious felony and misdemeanor charges. Known as a trial-ready advocate, he handles cases from initial investigation through trial, including pre-trial litigation, negotiations, jury selection, and courtroom advocacy. His approach combines experienced litigation skills with a strong client-focused philosophy aimed at reducing the stress and uncertainty individuals face when navigating the criminal justice system.

Mr. Chavez has earned professional recognition for his work in criminal defense and has been selected to the Super Lawyers list from 2021 through 2025, following earlier recognition as a Rising Star—distinctions awarded to attorneys demonstrating high levels of professional achievement and peer recognition. Licensed to practice law in Texas since 2005, he represents clients throughout the Austin and surrounding Central Texas communities in a wide range of criminal defense matters.

Mr. Chavez earned his Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law and also holds a Master of Business Administration from Texas Tech University, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration from Lubbock Christian University.
