Jason G. Benzaken is a Founding Partner of Benzaken, Sheehan & Wood, a leading Massachusetts criminal defense firm.

Attorney Benzaken focuses his practice on criminal defense, post-conviction litigation and appeals, and civil rights litigation. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

He regularly tries cases in Superior Courts throughout Massachusetts, as well as in Federal Court.  Most recently, at the trial level, he has focused on serious felony cases, primarily murder cases and federal criminal offenses.

Attorney Benzaken was born and raised in the Washington Heights neighborhood in New York City, moving to Boston to attend Northeastern University School of Law.  After graduation, he worked as a staff attorney for the Committee for Public Counsel Services in the Brockton office, representing indigent defendants in the Superior Court.

In 2006, Jason left the public defender’s office and started a private practice focusing on criminal appeals, and soon formed Benzaken and Wood, LLP, with Joshua Wood, also a former CPCS staff attorney.

Although he is no longer working at the public defender’s office, Attorney Benzaken remains committed to the administration of the indigent defense system in Massachusetts and has worked as the Supervising Attorney for the bar advocate program in Plymouth County since 2011.

The attorneys at Benzaken, Sheehan & Wood, LLP understand the gravity of being accused of or charged with a crime. As dedicated Brockton criminal defense attorneys, they work tirelessly to secure favorable outcomes for their clients while striving to make the legal process as seamless and stress-free as possible.

Criminal defense lies at the core of the firm’s legal practice. Each of the partners at Benzaken, Sheehan & Wood, LLP began their careers as public defenders or prosecutors, gaining invaluable courtroom experience before focusing exclusively on criminal defense in private practice. As seasoned Massachusetts criminal defense attorneys, they regularly represent clients in District Courts, Superior Courts, and Federal Courts throughout Massachusetts.

The firm’s Brockton criminal defense attorneys defend individuals facing charges ranging from minor Massachusetts criminal matters, such as misdemeanors and motor vehicle offenses, to serious felony charges, including drug crimes, white-collar offenses, sex crimes, violent assaults, manslaughter, and murder.

Benzaken, Sheehan & Wood, LLP represents clients at every stage of the Massachusetts criminal process. The firm’s experienced criminal defense attorneys frequently assist individuals who are under investigation, often before charges are filed. They collaborate with skilled investigators and expert witnesses to develop strategic defenses at the earliest opportunity, seeking to prevent charges, pursue diversionary options, or negotiate favorable resolutions. When clients are charged or indicted, the firm aggressively investigates the allegations, builds comprehensive defenses, and regularly takes cases to trial before juries to advocate for justice.

Benzaken, Sheehan & Wood, LLP is a Massachusetts criminal defense law firm where each partner brings more than two decades of experience practicing criminal law, handling matters ranging from misdemeanors to the most serious state and federal felonies, including murder.

From its Brockton office, the firm represents clients throughout Massachusetts in District Court, Superior Court, and Federal Court. It is known for meticulous preparation, strategic advocacy, and a trial-ready approach to every case.

The firm defends clients facing charges involving firearms, drugs, violent offenses, and complex criminal investigations. Its work encompasses trials, motions practice, appeals, post-conviction litigation, and parole matters.

When a client’s freedom and future are at stake, experience matters.

Each of the firm’s partners has spent more than twenty years practicing criminal law in Massachusetts courts. The firm intentionally accepts fewer cases to ensure thorough preparation, treating every matter as though it will proceed to trial.
